Being sensible

is such
a great asset
in life,
really.

Being sensible
also happens
to be the
antithesis
of my default
temperament.

How interesting
it is to meet
people, exactly
where
they are…
Rather than
where your preconceived
notions may
have
parked them.

People,
after all, are
complex beings.
And we all
long
for love, and belonging.

So what happens
when people shift
between these
informal groupings,
changing gears
from love to belonging?

For I believe that
loving someone means,
that they are
forever there,
even if only in the
darkest corner
of your heart.

Love changes
everything, though,
to quote an eighties pop
band, even itself.

What then?

So people get to
love you,
differently,
and you them.
And people
you’ve loved also
get a VIP pass
to the belonging
category,
don’t they?

Windows 3.1
has been
superceded by
many new versions,
and upgrades,
yet some humans
nostalgically
hanker
for it.

So where does
this leave
me, and my
fragile heart?

Exactly where
it should be,
me thinks:
open,
experiencing life,
in all its complexities.
