all the chips

are down.

Well, I know that

they aren’t chips exactly,

they are checkers, or

pieces,

I look at you in

wonder.

There you are

just there,

in easy arm’s reach.

Content in the

early morning air,

contemplating the

surf, the sky, the

people going by.

We play,

I win, yay!

Once, mind you.

We eat, sharing food easily,

like the other

sustinances

flowing between us.

We sip coffee

we muse

we contemplate,

and all the

while, that tiny

redhead girl

inside me smiles…

There really is

such a thing as kinship,

all one

has to do is

try.
