in the morning walk
as the cool air pools
into the indentation
your body left
behind.

There’s a hole
in my heart
and I may slowly, eventually
bleed to death,
the sticky red tears
snaking into the soil.

There’s a cave
in my soul
where we used to
commune.
Content,
glorious
and uninhibited,
our simple union.

There a crater
in my life,
which only you
can fill
Dear One.
And as our paths fork
further apart.
I long to feel your paws
and gentle eyes
just one more time.
