You wade into
the water.
It’s lukewarm,
comfortable.
He’s nice
enough.
You talk
and there’s
a connection,
a comfort of sorts,
and you are
very much
in need of
comfort.
The pattern
forms itself
really.
Initially, it’s easy.
Simple.
A good fit.
And then, over
time,
the discomfort
sets in.
The frustration,
the lack of air,
the breathing room
mysteriously missing.
And then
it’s 3:02am
and you’re there,
by yourself,
in your bed,
and it’s just you
there…
Your truth
is unavoidable.
And you know
that you always
knew.
This was not it,
in fact, this was never it,
it was simply a
lifeline, a bridge
to the life
you
imagined you need.
