starting
a one-woman
revolution
to bring back
beautiful words.
Well actually,
they have
never
truly left us,
they have
simply
fallen into
disuse.
Words, like the
very best
things
in life, can
simply be enjoyed
for
their own
sake,
although by
their very nature
they are
profoundly useful.
So in my quest
to free the
fantastic words,
so to speak,
I’ve crossed paths
with this particular,
albeit dire,
beauty:
pedagogue.
A strict and unlikeable
teacher.
[insert eyeroll here]
Leaning in nonetheless,
this word feels
stern, and harsh,
and rigid,
and my top lip curves
in disdain as I
read it.
Isn’t that amazing?
The fact that
one tiny
word can do
all of that?
So while being
a pedagogue
is not someone
I aspire to be,
not by a million miles,
it is a strikingly apt
and beautiful word.
Crisp even, and
most definitely
precise.
Plus, it’s always good
to have a fabulous
slur
in one’s
backpocket.
