People come

and people go.
Life ebbs and
flows,
and today’s necessity
is tomorrow’s
entirely optional.

Why is this?
Well, I suspect
it’s due to several
related, yet different
things.
Yep, those things
that aren’t things
at all.

We learn,
we grow,
we open up to new
experiences,
we decide what
we want,
and by association,
what we don’t want.

Slowly the message seeps in:
you get to choose,
and steer,
and bring into this
life of yours, what you
truly want.
I’m not quite talking
scratchcard or lottery winnings
here, although even those
can be somewhat swung in your
favour by buying enough
entries.

Ha! Enough – interesting switch this.
You may find yourself in a
moment where
you realise that you
have had your fill.
And that simple thought
flicks the switch to off. No
more connection,
no more community,
no more engagement.
A samurai sword swung
in a moment,
a lifetime’s training
wielding the blade.

Enough can also elevate
and expand our
sense of contentment.
This is enough,
you are enough,
this connection we have, is enough.
And by contrast, having, in the ownership sense, has very little
to do with
enough.

So today, I sit here.
Steeped in my own enough.
I look at the small brown dog.
The cozy jumper.
The dark brew in its
beautiful tiny cup.
My very own enough,
right here,
right now.
