later,
and here we
are.
Who knew that
things could
be so simple,
and also so
complicated, all
at once.
I was right
that day, thinking:
this guy.
We found our
flow, the easy
rhythm of dog
kisses in the morning.
I learned to be
quiet, and not
fill those early morning
spaces with
questions.
I learned that
someone could be
thrillingly exciting,
and incredibly safe, at
the
same
time.
And that I really
do like
the look of you,
and the feel. These
things have gotten
even better over
time. And with
30 years to go,
I’m keen to see how
great this could
get.
And the complicated
bits? I learned
that you could love
someone freely,
without agenda,
and that
they could do
the same right
back.
That we can
actually talk about
uncomfortable
things, and feel seen.
Even when
broken. Knowing that
the shared repairs
are already
paying
dividends.
That seeing someone
smile, can lift
your heart and
spirits.
That holding
someone’s hand
can make
everything feel
that tiny
bit sweeter.
That showing
your true self,
can be
a deciding factor,
for the good.
So yes: thank you,
for these first
days of living. And
caring, and
giving.
You, and I,
are
indeed
enough.
